The SCORM package for campaigns integrated with an LMS now displays the content within the window or frame assigned by the LMS. This article explains what changed, how to apply the new behavior, and what to keep in mind.
What changed?
Previously, the SCORM package opened the content in a pop-up window, regardless of the LMS configuration. Browser pop-up blockers could prevent access.
Now:
- The content is displayed in the window or frame assigned by the LMS, without a pop-up window or intermediate screen.
- The close buttons that led to login screens are hidden.
- When an Interactive Module is completed within the LMS, the user receives badges and points, just as they do outside the LMS.
What do I need to use it?
- You must have the LMS Integration component.
- You must have a campaign integrated with an LMS.
The integration is configured under Settings > Integrations > LMS Integration.
How do I apply the new behavior?
- Go to the campaign Calendar and locate the campaign integrated with an LMS.
- Click Download SCORM package.
- Upload the package to the LMS, replacing the previous one.
- In the LMS, configure how the activity is displayed (for example, in the current window or a new window). The platform respects this choice.
- Open the activity to verify it. The content is displayed in the location assigned by the LMS, and completion is reported to the LMS.
| Important: SCORM packages downloaded before this change retain the previous behavior. To apply the new behavior, you must download the package again and upload it to the LMS. |
Frequently asked questions
Where do I choose whether the content opens in the same window or a new window?
In the LMS. The platform does not offer a same window / new window option; the LMS makes that choice based on the activity configuration.
Why does the frame appear blank inside the LMS?
The frame appears blank when the organization has expired or does not have the LMS Integration component. Verify both conditions.
Are exam and survey responses still recorded?
Yes, as long as the organization is active, current, and has the LMS Integration component. Responses to Exams and Surveys submitted from the LMS now verify these conditions before being recorded.
| Note: before this change, responses were recorded even if these conditions were not met. |
Do users receive badges and points when they complete content from the LMS?
Yes. Completing an Interactive Module within the LMS awards badges and points, just as it does outside the LMS.
💡 Best practices

- Test the new package in a pilot course before replacing it in all courses.
- Define in the LMS how the activity will be displayed before publishing it to users.
- Verify that users are linked between SMARTFENSE and the LMS under Settings > Integrations > LMS Integration > User Linking.
- For more details about the configuration, see the article LMS Integration - Campaign Configuration.
