This article describes the Proactive usage indicators report, available in the Reports section of SMARTFENSE. The report presents key indicators of voluntary platform use: the activity that users engage in on their own initiative, consuming content outside of an assigned campaign.
To access the report, go to the Reports menu, locate the Key Performance Indicators card, and click the eye icon next to Proactive usage indicators.
This report only takes into account proactive interactions, meaning those that take place outside of an assigned campaign. Exams and surveys are not included, as they can only be accessed if assigned in a campaign.
Available filters
The report allows segmenting results using the following filters:
- Filter by group
- Filter by functional area
- Filter by level of hierarchy
- Filter by smart groups
- Start month and End month (analysis period)
Definitions
- Active users: users with active status (not unsubscribed) from the client. They are the denominator of the adoption rate.
- Started content: the user registered the start of the interaction (started a module, video, or video game, or opened a newsletter).
- Finished content: completed the interaction defined for the type of content. In modules, videos, and video games, it means finishing them; in newsletters, answering the associated question.
Global Metrics
This section presents a summary of the reach and depth of proactive use in the selected period.
Proactive adoption rate (%)
Percentage of active users who finished at least one piece of content on their own initiative in the selected period. A high value reflects a consolidated voluntary-use culture and lower dependence on mandatory campaigns to sustain safe habits.
Active proactive users
Number of distinct users who finished at least one piece of content proactively in the period. It is the basis of the adoption rate.
Contents per active user
Average number of distinct pieces of content finished by each active proactive user. It measures the depth of use: a value close to 1 indicates superficial consumption; higher values reflect sustained exploration and allow identifying internal references of best practices.
Active proactive users per month
Evolution chart showing the number of active users per month in the selected period. Each month is counted independently: the same active user in multiple months counts in each one, so the monthly total does not match the number of active users for the full period, which counts each user only once.
Usage by content type
For each type of proactive content (Interactive Modules, Videos, Video Games, and Newsletters), shows how many distinct users started it and how many finished it. Allows comparing which formats generate more interest and identifying where the highest drop-off occurs.
Adoption by area and level
Breaks down adoption by functional area and by hierarchical level. For each segment, it shows the active users in the group (base), the proactive users (those who finished at least one piece of content on their own initiative), and the adoption percentage. It helps identify sectors with high participation and take action on those with lower engagement. Both tables include a CSV download button.
Rankings
Most consumed contents
Lists the contents with the highest number of users who finished them during the period. Allows replicating the format of the most adopted content and identifying which topics generate the most interest voluntarily. Includes a CSV download button.
Most proactive users
Lists the users with the highest number of distinct pieces of content finished proactively. Allows identifying internal references of best practices and reinforcing in campaigns the relevant content that does not appear in the ranking. Includes a CSV download button.
Last update
Like the Awareness Indicators in Campaigns report, this report shows the date and time of the last data update at the bottom, so you can know how current the indicators being displayed are.
💡 Best practices
- Monitor the Proactive adoption rate as a cultural maturity indicator: a growing value over time shows that the organization has internalized the program beyond mandatory campaigns.
- Use the Active proactive users per month chart to detect peaks or drops and correlate them with internal communication actions or new content launches.
- Review the Usage by content type table to identify which formats generate the most drop-off (started but not finished) and evaluate whether the content is suitable for autonomous consumption.
- Apply the functional area or level of hierarchy filter to identify segments with high proactive adoption and replicate their practices across other groups.
- Consult the Most consumed contents ranking to prioritize content creation in the formats and topics that most motivate voluntary use.
