Properly managing access to platforms is one of the pillars of any security strategy. That is why the latest workshop from the SMARTFENSE technical team was dedicated to a topic that many organizations still need to optimize: how to implement secure authentication makes the most of the platform's capabilities.
David Casco and Ernesto Schimpf, from SMARTFENSE's Operations and Support area, guided attendees step by step through the different available options.
What was covered in the workshop?
In less than 30 minutes, the specialists demonstrated live how to configure the authentication methods offered by the platform, which go far beyond traditional credentials:
Authentication with Microsoft Entra ID: application registration in the Azure portal, domain configuration, necessary API permissions (Microsoft Graph), and client secret generation.
Authentication with Google: project creation in Google Developer Console, consent screen configuration, obtaining the Client ID and Client Secret, and enabling the Admin SDK API.
Two-factor authentication (2FA): how to enable it from the administrator profile using applications like Google Authenticator, including managing backup codes.
Password policies: how to customize requirements (length, uppercase letters, symbols, etc.) to match the security policy of each organization.
Session management: setting the inactivity time for automatic session logout.
An important detail to keep in mind
During the workshop, it was noted that the import and authentication methods are independent of each other: for example, it is possible to import users via CSV and authenticate them through Entra ID without any conflict.
Additionally, administrators always maintain an alternative access via SMARTFENSE password as a backup in case of configuration issues, such as the expiration of a client secret.
