When simulation sending is configured via DMI, emails are only sent to users within the configured domain. To perform tests with external accounts, it is necessary to temporarily change the sending method.
Reason for this behavior
For sending simulations (phishing or ransomware), the platform uses the sending method configured in Settings > Simulations > Sending Method.
If DMI is selected for both Microsoft and Google, the following restriction applies:
Emails will only be sent to users who belong to the configured domain.
This applies to both real campaigns and test emails.
Therefore, if you try to run tests with a user who does not belong to that domain, they will not receive the emails.
How to perform tests correctly?
If you need to send tests to external accounts or accounts that do not belong to the configured domain:
Go to Settings > Simulations > Sending Method
Select SMARTFENSE Mail Server
Save the changes
Perform the simulation test
Once testing is complete:
You must reconfigure sending via DMI
The configuration data is saved, so you can easily restore it
| Note: This is necessary to ensure the proper functioning of real campaigns in the client environment. |
Considerations
This behavior is expected and is part of DMI's security logic
It is not a platform error
Applies to phishing and ransomware simulations
💡 Best practices
Perform tests with accounts from the same domain when DMI is active
Use the temporary sending method change only for testing
Verify the configuration before launching real campaigns
Document this procedure for future tests
