This article describes what evaluation and measurement campaigns are in SMARTFENSE, what types they include, and when to use each one. The goal is to help you choose the right format according to the indicator you want to gather.
What are evaluation and measurement campaigns?
Evaluation and measurement campaigns are those that gather information from the user to verify knowledge or learn their opinion. Unlike awareness campaigns, which deliver formative content, and simulations, which measure behavior against a controlled attack, these campaigns focus on obtaining data that allows measuring the impact of awareness initiatives and guiding the formative program decisions.
Available types
SMARTFENSE includes two types of evaluation and measurement campaigns. Each one gathers a different indicator, allowing you to cover both the knowledge and the perception dimension.
Exams
Evaluations that measure users' knowledge assimilation about awareness topics. They allow you to validate, through a grading with a passing percentage, the level of understanding reached by each user. You can configure Available minutes, Passing percentage, Number of attempts, and feedback about the answers.
Exams can be used in two ways:
- As a standalone campaign, by scheduling an Exam type campaign.
- As a derived action within an Interactive Modules or Videos campaign, configuring them at the end of the formative path from the Derived actions section.
Recommended for certifying knowledge acquired after an Interactive Module or a Video, validating the assimilation of sensitive topics, or issuing formal recognitions.

Surveys
Questionnaires that gather the opinion of users on different topics, in personal or anonymous format. They are useful for understanding perceptions, collecting feedback, and measuring the level of adoption of awareness initiatives. Anonymous Surveys do not associate users with their answers, which favors honesty on sensitive topics.
Recommended for understanding the user's perception regarding the security culture, collecting feedback on formative content, or validating hypotheses of the awareness program.

💡 Best practices
- Combine Exams with Interactive Modules to certify the knowledge acquired at the end of training.
- Enable Anonymous Survey when the goal is to obtain honest answers on sensitive topics, without making the user feel identified.
- Adjust the Passing percentage and Available minutes according to the recipient user's profile to improve participation and the pass rate.
- Verify the reminder configuration in Settings > Notifications > Reminders before launching the campaign, to reduce uncompleted exams and surveys.
- Configure the campaign as Test campaign to perform internal validations without affecting reports or audit.
- Combine Exams and Surveys with awareness campaigns and simulations to obtain a complete view of the program: what users know, what they think, and how they behave.
