This article explains how SMARTFENSE determines the language in which content is displayed to each user, considering similar languages and the instance's preferred language configured in Settings > Organization > Preferred Language.
Availability of Content in Different Languages
Platform content, both predefined and customized, may be available in different languages.
When a user accesses content, SMARTFENSE will try to display it in the user's language.
If the content does not exist in that language, the platform will automatically check if it is available in a similar language.
Similar Languages
SMARTFENSE groups certain languages as similar to offer a more coherent experience when content is not available in the user's exact language. The languages considered similar are:
Spanish
Spanish (Latin America)
Spanish (Spain)
Spanish (Mexico)
Euskara (Basque Country)
Portuguese
Português (Brazil)
Português (Portugal)
English
English (United Kingdom)
English (United States)
If the content exists in any of the similar languages, the platform will automatically use it.
Instance's Preferred Language
If the content is not available in either the user's language or a similar language, SMARTFENSE will try to display it in the instance's preferred language, configurable at:
Settings > Organization > Preferred Language
This language acts as a general fallback to ensure linguistic consistency across the platform.
Behavior When No Matches Are Found
| Note: The language selection logic for predefined assignment notifications works as follows: when a user has a configured language code that is not supported, the platform first looks for an available variant of the same language, then uses the preferred language configured in the organization, and as a last option, falls back to the default language. |
💡 Best Practices
Keep the Instance's Preferred Language well configured to ensure consistent content when specific versions for certain users do not exist.
When creating custom content, try to include it in the most used languages by the organization to avoid falling back to alternate languages.
Review the languages assigned to users and groups to ensure appropriate communication aligned with their needs.
Consider creating content in at least one similar language to expand coverage without duplicating efforts.
