Gamification refers to the use of game design techniques and elements in different contexts, with the goal of motivating and capturing people's attention.
In SMARTFENSE, the Gamification component involves the addition of the concepts of Badges or Insignias, Experience Points and Levels within the platform. These are a graphical representation of a merit or achievement obtained by the user, serving as recognition with important symbolic power, encouraging continuity and serving as a guide for the user.
The predefined badges in SMARTFENSE are automatically awarded by the platform when the user completes the actions defined to earn them. For example: finishing 3 interactive modules, passing 5 exams.
When a Badge is awarded, the user is notified at that moment, to reinforce and emphasize the relationship between the action taken and the reward.
In addition, the platform awards experience points to the user as they perform meaningful actions, allowing them to feel a sense of progress and motivating them to continue using the tool in order to level up.
End User View
As users complete content and earn badges, they accumulate points and level up. In the My Progress section, the end user can see the percentage completed of their current level. To complete each level, 100 points are needed. There are over 100 levels!
By clicking the "View ranking" button, the user can see a historical Ranking, an annual Ranking, and a monthly Ranking, showing their position and the positions of their colleagues in each one.
In the lower section, the Badges earned are displayed. The user can see all the badges they have earned by clicking the "View all my badges" button.
Administrative Settings
In the Settings > Engagement > Gamification section, you can find several customization options:
Components: This section allows you to customize which Gamification elements are shown on the end user's Dashboard. You can show or hide: Experience points and levels and/or Badges.
| Important: This setting changes what the user sees, but does not disable Gamification. What does this mean? For example, if Experience points and levels are hidden, users will still continue to accumulate points and the information can be viewed from the platform's administrative console. |
Badges: This section shows the list of Badges available on the platform. Badges are automatically awarded when the required action to obtain them is performed, whether by interacting with real campaigns, test campaigns, or by proactive interaction. If you do not want a badge to be awarded, you can deactivate it. To do this, select the badge in question and press the Activate/Deactivate button that will appear on the screen.
Experience Points: This section describes the actions that can award experience points to a user. These points are automatically added to the user when the action is performed.
Completed Content: This section offers the possibility to choose whether completed content should award experience points and count towards earning badges when viewed again.
The completed content section shows the user the content they have completed at some point in their history and allows them to redo it proactively.
If you select the option "Count for Experience Points and Badges", each time the user completes previously finished content again, they will be awarded experience points and the action will be counted towards awarding new badges if applicable. Otherwise, if you select "Do Not Count for Experience Points and Badges", the completed content will not contribute to the accumulation of experience points or progress towards new badges, regardless of how many times the same content is completed.
Ranking: This section allows you to select whether administrative users should be included or excluded from the Experience Points and Badges Ranking.
Interactions for obtaining experience points and badges: This section allows you to select which actions award experience points and count towards earning badges.
By default, all actions the user can perform are considered:
Interactions with real campaigns
Interactions with test campaigns
Proactive interactions, that is, interactions outside the context of a campaign.
In this section, you can exclude/include the actions you wish by adjusting the settings.
Notifications: This section allows you to decide whether users will receive a message via the configured delivery method when earning a new badge, and also allows you to select the delivery method and customize the message content.
This message informs users of the name, description, image, and experience points of the badge earned.
Regardless of the settings in this section, users will see an on-screen notification if they earn a new badge, and can also find it in the list of their earned badges.
Reports
In the Reports > Gamification section you can obtain the following reports:
- Experience Points Ranking
- Badges Ranking
This section allows you to display the ranking of users who have earned the most experience points and badges during a specific period within the platform. To define this period, you can use the date filter, which allows you to select the desired time range to adjust the information shown in the rankings.
Within the experience points ranking, the position, user name, experience points accumulated, and their level are detailed. All this data will be shown according to the date range set in the filter.
On the other hand, in the badges ranking, the user's position according to the date filter, their name, and the badges they have earned during that period are specified.
