In this article, we will discuss the creation of customized content as a value-added service. All content available on our platform is 100% adjustable to meet the needs of our clients' organizations. SMARTFENSE allows the creation of new content in several ways:
- From predefined platform content
- From scratch
- Based on external material from partners or clients
The versatility of the platform ensures rapid response to emerging issues, the release of urgent communications, or the simulation of scenarios that could have been real, such as a phishing attack that a security tool was able to stop (replicating a real attack in a “what if” scenario) to determine what could have happened if it had not been detected in time.
Content customization allows the development of specific material segmented for different user groups and focused on the culture of the organizations.
The platform allows content customization by using a predefined content template or by creating entirely new content from scratch.
SMARTFENSE has an integrated content editor that enables the creation and editing of content simply and intuitively, without the need to use third-party software. In addition to this, it allows images to be automatically optimized.
The system allows editing the contents or adding translations in all the languages available on the platform. Additionally, it allows for archiving unused content.
The customized contents are of exclusive access to whoever creates them, in their instance. If they are created in Multi-tenant and are active, they can also be seen in their dependent instances, under predefined content.
How to Customize Content?
In this workshop (available in Spanish), we show how to customize the content of our awareness, simulation, and assessment tools using predefined templates or creating content from scratch.
Below is a brief description of how to customize the contents for each of the SMARTFENSE components:
Customized Interactive Modules
Interactive Modules consist of slides with different activities displayed sequentially to end-users. Within the editor, you can change the order of the slides by dragging them after clicking on any part of the slide. You can perform the following actions:
- Add a new slide: Click on the Add Slide button at the bottom left of the screen or click on the + button located at the top right of each existing slide.
- Delete an existing slide: Click on the Delete Slide button located at the upper right of the slide in question.
- Duplicate an existing slide: Click on the Copy Slide button located at the top right of the slide in question.
- Modify the content of an existing slide: Click on the Edit content button, located at the bottom of each slide.
Translations: the actions of adding, modifying, duplicating, deleting, or changing the order of a slide are automatically replicated in the different languages in which the Interactive Module is available.
Slides can be "Title and Body", or "Title and Two Columns."
A slide can contain these activities:
Image, Video, Text, Multiple-Choice Question, Drag and Drop (*), Password Strength, Classify pairs (*), Email, Interactive bullet points (*)
(*) Some activities are only available on Title and Body slides.
Customized Newsletters
You can create customized Newsletters by modifying a predefined one or creating it from scratch.
Define the email subject and create the content with the WYSIWYG editor, or directly in HTML format.
You can add attachments up to 10 MB with the following extensions: word, txt, pdf, jpg, png, zip, and excel.
If you add a validation question at the end of a newsletter, choose the possible answers and the feedback for each one.
Additionally, from the Settings > Components > Newsletters section, you can customize the Feedback for the answers to the final reading validation question as well as its title and colors.
Customized Videos
You can create customized Videos by modifying a predefined one or starting from scratch.
Add video files with a maximum size of 250 MB. The file must be in a format that is supported by HTML5 playback, for example, mp4.
If you add a validation question at the end of a video, choose the possible answers and the feedback for each one.
Customized Phishing
You can manage your own Phishing content. To create Phishing content from scratch, click on New Phishing.
Important: The content will be created in the same language as the administrative user who is performing the action.
Customized Phishing from template: you can customize a phishing based on a predefined one by selecting it from the dropdown list under Create new Phishing from template.
A view will open with preloaded fields, which can be freely modified.
- Edit Phishing/Email Content:
Email subject: It allows you to use the variables Name and Last name by clicking the buttons that are next to the text field. These variables will be replaced by the data of each end user who receives the Phishing simulation email.
Email content: Content of the Phishing simulation email in HTML format. It can be designed with the editor that the platform provides, or the source code can be entered directly from the menu Tools/Source Code.
The editor has buttons of interest such as the drop-down of User data and Organization data with a wide range of variables to customize the contents.
It is essential to place the Phishing Link somewhere in the content by clicking the Phishing Link button or by using the variable $phishing_link. This link will direct users to the Phishing landing page.
- Edit Phishing/Landing Page:
It is the landing page of the Phishing simulation email. End users reach this page when they click on the Phishing link received by email (designed in the previous section).
It can be designed with the editor that the platform provides, or the source code can be entered directly from the menu Tools/Source Code.
It must include a form that allows you to catch the end user’s intention to enter private information.
The Add login form button allows you to add a sample form. To create your own, consider the basic HTML structure referenced in the platform's online help.
This code must be present for the correct operation of the Phishing traps. On this basis, any other code can be added to visually adapt the form and achieve the desired result.
Final Recommendations in Customizing Phishing Simulations:
After creating a phishing scenario, it is recommended to launch a test campaign to test it with an end user. It is important to corroborate that the scenario can be run from start to finish and that all statistics (phishing opened, link clicked, data entered) are generated correctly.
For customizing Ransomware and Smishing simulations, the process is very similar to the previously described Phishing.
Customized Teachable Moments
You can create customized Teachable Moments by modifying a predefined one or creating it from scratch.
Define the email subject (only if scheduled on a deferred date) and create the content with the WYSIWYG editor, or directly in HTML format.
If you add a validation question at the end of a teachable moment, choose the possible answers and the feedback for each one.
Customized Exams
You can create customized Exams by modifying a predefined one or creating it from scratch.
Define each question and up to 4 possible answers, which will be presented to the user so that they can choose the one they consider correct. You can then make each exam campaign more or less exacting by defining the duration in minutes, and the minimum passing percentage.
Define the feedback that corresponds to each possible answer. Then, from the campaign schedule, you can decide whether this feedback will be shown to the user or not.
Customized Surveys
You can create customized Surveys by modifying a predefined one or creating it from scratch.
Define the email subject and create the content with the WYSIWYG editor, or directly in HTML format.
You can select between a Multiple-Choice question with up to 10 options or an open-ended question.
