Campaign overlap occurs when multiple campaigns start on the same day and time, which can affect email delivery and content assignment. This article explains how to avoid it and the best way to schedule campaigns on the same day.
What is campaign overlap?
It happens when campaigns of Interactive Modules, Videos, Exams, or Surveys are set to start at the same date and time.
In these cases, the platform must process simultaneously:
- User assignment
- Email sending (including welcome emails)
This can cause behaviors such as:
- Deliveries distributed among campaigns
- Delays in email sending
Why does it happen?
The behavior mainly depends on:
- The email sending load at that moment
- If there are new users (who require welcome emails)
- The number of campaigns starting at the same time
When several campaigns start together, the platform processes the deliveries in parallel, which can generate differences in the order and timing in which each user receives the emails.
Best practices to avoid issues
If you need to launch multiple campaigns on the same day, it is recommended to:
1. Stagger start times
Set at least 1 hour difference between campaigns of the same type (for example, between Interactive Modules).
This allows:
- Completion of email deliveries from the first campaign
- Avoiding overload in simultaneous sending
2. Prioritize the first campaign
If there are campaigns that include welcome emails, it is advisable that:
- The first campaign starts earlier
- The following ones are scheduled with a time difference
3. Avoid unnecessary multiple simultaneous campaigns
When possible, consider:
- Consolidating content into fewer campaigns
- Distributing them at different times or days
4. Consider using your own mail server
If the instance uses the SMARTFENSE mail server:
- Emails enter a sending queue
- Sending is done in batches
This means that delivery time may vary depending on the number of emails in the queue.
In these cases, having your own mail server can improve sending capacity and reduce delays.
