This article explains what happens when a user is Inactive, how this affects their access to the platform, and clarifies whether inactive users who belong to groups receive scheduled campaigns.
Behavior of Active Users
Users with Active status can:
log in to the platform
perform actions allowed by their role
receive notifications and content sent through the platform
Additionally, only active users are counted as contracted licenses in SMARTFENSE.
What Happens When a User Is Marked as Inactive
When a user's status is changed to Inactive, the following restrictions apply:
they cannot log in to the platform
they will not be assigned to new campaigns
they will not receive notifications or content sent through the platform
If the user tries to access a previously received link, they may see:
a content not found message
or the SMARTFENSE login screen
Do Inactive Users Who Belong to a Group Receive Campaigns?
No.
Users with Inactive status will not participate in any scheduled action on the platform, even if they remain part of one or more groups.
This means that:
they will not receive Phishing, Ransomware, or Interactive Module campaigns
they will not be included in statistics for future campaigns
Persistence of Inactive Users on the Platform
Inactive users remain stored in the platform's database, as they are not deleted. This allows:
maintaining historical statistics of previous campaigns
reactivating the user at any time if needed again
Additionally, if it is necessary to delete their personal data for privacy or regulatory compliance reasons, these users can be anonymized.
💡 Best Practices
Mark users who should no longer participate in campaigns as Inactive, even if you still need to keep their history.
Regularly review groups to avoid containing inactive users, which can cause confusion when scheduling campaigns.
Before launching a campaign, verify that the users included in the groups are Active to ensure the simulation reaches the intended audience.
